The ESCANABA PLANET WALK begins in front of the Escanaba Public Library at Ludington and 4th Streets in Escanaba’s downtown. As you walk from the sun, each foot equals 865,000 miles in space — the true size of our Day Star, the Sun. The Planet Walk will take about a half an hour to walk from the Sun to the dwarf planet Pluto, a 4-billion mile journey that took the New Horizons probe 10 years to complete.

When the Delta Astronomical Society - DAS built the original Planet Walk in 2002 no spacecraft had visited Pluto and our graphics were black and white. Today, we know more and we access our information in new and different ways.

Our new Planet Walk reflects scientific advances in Astronomy and information technology. Not only are our graphics better, but the sizes of each planet are accurate to scale, as are the distances between each station.

The Planet Walk in downtown Escanaba takes the planets, which are always moving in their orbits, lines them up and pushes the pause button, so you can get a sense of their sizes in relation to the vast, empty spaces between them.

Planet Walk is Wheelchair Accessible.

Planet Walk is made possible in part by grants from the Community Foundation for Delta County, City of Escanaba, Escanaba DDA, and the many generous gifts of local businesses and individuals.
