ESCANABA — The Lunch on Ludington Music Series begins Wednesday, June 4, in Escanaba. Live music is offered for nine weeks at the Escanaba Marketplace.
Wendy Pepin with Blues for a Cause started the music series as a way to give a break to those working during the summer. She now offers the summer program with the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority as a way to get people together during the day.
“I was working at the end of Ludington Street when I first graduated from high school and I would walk on my lunch hour to Neisner’s or stores that were there just to fill that time. I thought that this is a good time for people who work downtown to come together and sit down and chill, forget about their jobs for a little bit and listen to music in the middle of the day,” Pepin said. “Kind of simple like that.”
The season starts Wednesday with Whiskey Ryan, a musican from Munising who plays rock, folk and Americana.
He is followed by the Lark Brothers on June 11, Make Belive Spurs, Sailer & Sjoquist, Roman Around, Seth Brown Duo, ToHuBoHu, The Flavor Deputies and the House Band with Pete Ammel.
“You know, the musicians have fun, the people listening have fun and when it comes to Lunch on Ludington this week, hopefully they will enjoy some good Italian food from a food truck there,”
People are encouraged to buy a lunch from a business downtown or from a food truck at each of the events.
The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm at the Escanaba Marketplace at 15th and Ludington Streets.
The first Farmers Market also starts that day. Farmers Market runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 am to noon on Saturdays.
