Escanaba launches “Project Point” workshops to support local businesses

ESCANABA — Several business owners gathered in Escanaba this week for the first Project Point: Guiding Businesses to Success workshop.

The program is organized by the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority's Community Development Committee and the Delta County Economic Development Alliance.

Rebecca Bender, a DDA board member and owner of the Canterbury Book Store, said the workshops are designed to help business owners connect, share ideas and overcome common challenges.

"We wanted to address vacancies on Ludington Street and help local entrepreneurs overcome some of their obstacles and, so, we began brainstorming on how we could do this," she said.

Ryan Brayak of Lake Effect Distillery said the new workshop series will be a way for business owners to learn from each other.

"I think the new Project Point will help people navigate decisions when they come across, 'what do I do next' or 'how do I start this,'" he said.

Project Point meetings will be held the second Wednesday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. at Escanaba City Hall. More information is available at escanabadda.org.
